Getting Your Song In A Commercial 101

It’s not easy, but you knew that!

We landed a Steven McDonald/Anna Waronker song “Not Bad At All“, in one of the 3 new Mini Cooper spots.

Music supervisor superstar Liza Richardson, gave us a ring, and gave me the lowdown on the spot, the feel, and the price, which helped lots! We knew who to avoid, who to go to, and who could pull it off.

They wanted a feel like “Last Nite” by The Strokes, and many other songs. We pitched this fab new tune, which Liza being a woman with great taste loved right away, and wanted to know would this be a easy song to clear for the spot. I talked to the clients, I knew the answer, but after a couple of days it went away, which is very common in all areas of the licensing world.

ONE MONTH LATER
The ideal song has still NOT been found for the spot, she tells me who to send ideas to. I send her the same song (IF it is right, stick with your gut), Liza agrees, and she goes to bat again. They like it, and use it! Sometimes a gut feeling is the way to go! You can see and hear the song in the commercial!

Commerce at it’s finest.
