Farewell Mick Ralphs
Growing up, I wanted, needed to meet my heroes.
Mott The Hoople fell in that category. The important part, they loved the fans.
So many nice things they went out of their way to do.
One of the first times my geeky crew called the Hyatt House they invited us over.
We hung out, and Mick said hey we are going to a party, we headed downstairs, knowing the ladies would get the invite.
Front door of the hotel, a Firebird or some fun rent-a car pulled up a few of Mott headed for the car, Mick said “Get in.”
We did, ladies ran to follow us. We were shocked, hopped in with the Hoople and went to the party.
We saw them so many times including full dress Rehearsal at the Aquarius Theatre, crew shirts in Fresno etc.
All beyond the call of band kindness.
I kept track and thought if I am ever in a band I need to remember this. DON’T BE A JERK! I did my best.
Bad Company roll into LA for a promo visit.
I had filmed many super 8 films.
Called Mick and said who I was, I have Mott The Hoople and Free films. Get over here! They shouted.
They enjoyed the films, this was a time you early saw yourself filmed you moved on to the next town, no time for that.
Always kind, super talent, bummed when he left Mott. He became a star, he always was.
I know the last 10 years he had battled a stroke.
Shine On Mick Ralphs!
